k********y 发帖数: 92 | 1 The program gives an option to experience the clinic on the next day after
interview. This is what they said:
"We cannot provide complimentary lodging for the third night, but in some
cases a resident may be willing to have you stay at her or his home. This
bonus opportunity is completely optional, but applicants who elect it often
leave with a better understanding of the program"
Because the iv notice to actual iv date is very close, I have to
book ticket this weekend.
Thanks in advance for your input! | w**w 发帖数: 17 | 2 Sounds like a fun experience. I would do it. Best luck to you. May I ask
how many IVs have u got?

will be fine. Some CMGs may feel uncomfortable for staying with an unknown
person (especially not a Chinese). Remember, every person you meet at the
program will evaluate you. | k********y 发帖数: 92 | 4 Thanks, wvvw and Eric.I understand your point, and I also like to make
friends, and it is fun to stay at someone's home and meet a resident in a
different setting, in addition to have lunch and dinner with residents in
the interview day.
But since they say "IN SOME CASES, a resident MAY be willing to have you
stay at her home". I feel like I am making a little "trouble", having them
do extra arrangement for me, just for the purpose of my giving more
impressions. So I feel it is courteous if I choose to stay for the day to
have extra clinic exposure (as a bonus), and book the flight back in the
evening. | k**e 发帖数: 2728 | 5 WELL if you just cannot find a flight back in the evening then just do it.
if you really can manage to fly back, then do it. just follow the flow, I
guess...
Good luck!
I think what i meant is - if you cannot find a flight back, and if a
resident is willing to host you, its just natural to try to be friend with
him/her; however, if you can fly back then just leave. like what eric said,
everybody will evaluate you so try to follow everything in a natural way
then you can act naurally.

stay at friends/neighbors'. You get exposed to the American culture not
possible in the work setting.
Many Americans host international students. They go out of their ways to
help people. After Katrina, many Americans take their friends to their
homes. There are incredibly generous Americans in this country.
It is not you who are imposing on others. The hospitality is on a voluntary
basis. I dont see why not. Of course, you might be prepared that there is
no home available and you might need to book a hotel room.

| b****d 发帖数: 240 | 9 It is ultimately the LZ's decision. 'Either way is fine. It is not a life
and death situation. The way it works it that the negative votes of the
residents are taken more seriously. The positive votes are not.

| w**w 发帖数: 17 | 11 Most of the times, in-laws do stay with the family if the home is has the
extra guest rooms to accommodate them.
The exceptions are:
1. No extra bedrooms.
2. Awkward problematic relationships.
The people I know stay with families as a given. If you dont know any
American families, just try to recall what happens in the sitcoms. How
often really do the in-laws stay in hotels? Very rarely.
