"PubMed Unique Identifier (PMID)
This field is a 1- to 8-digit accession number with no leading zeros. It is
present on all records and is the accession number for managing and
disseminating records. PMIDs are not reused after records are deleted.
Examples:
PMID - 10097079
PMID - 6012557
Prior to the 2004 version of PubMed (available December 3, 2003), many
records contained a MEDLINE Unique Identifier in addition to the P | s*****1
