Did someone complain of your dictation because she/he cannot understand it
due to your accent? How you guys handle this issue?
While you are talking to someone, if she/he cannot get it, they will give
you feedback immediately. But the dication???
Any tips are more than welcome!

1. talk slowly while you dicate. this is the key point.
2. when you first start and not used to this system, try to write down the
most stuff before you dictate, so you can talk fluently while you read it.
3. when you have problem pronouncing some words, just spell it out,
especially for medications and disease names.
4.at the begining of your intern year, try to avoid using those big words or
complicated sentences. the goal of your dictation is not to look like a
literature, but to document eve

Anybody using "Voice Recorder Software"?
It seems to take longer to dictate at the beginning, but at least nobody
complains.

In our program, residents dictate and interns write H&P. The bad thing is we
cannot revise what we dictate. We have to dictate very slowly to avoid
errors.

She is the poster child that you dont need to speak/write good English to be a fellow. No wonder Americans dont want to see IMGs.
This board is littered with garbage. People write with fingers not brains.

1.Talk not only slowly, but loudly and clearly; speak in this way not only
when dictating, but also in every working situation, including presenting a
case!
2.What I do is to print out all my H/P and progress notes, and use my last
sign out as an outline.
3.That's the key!
4.That's the key, 2! Furthermore, use dictation as

- most stuff 没错啊?就好比说“most people”
- “have problem”是口语常用词组, 如“Do you have problem in ...?”
- “spell it out”,也是口语,譬如“check it out”, “find it out”,好像没听
- Maybe, I don't know

thanks for pointing out those mistakes, but if we listen to AMG physicians
talking, i am sure we can always find something to pick on, especially when
we are just chatting.
it's a good thing that you pay attention to details and bring this up for
discussion, it's one of the good qualities as a physician.
but please don't attack each other in the forum, especially using my case to
stereotype all other IMGs, i am sure there are lots of chinese physicians
speak much better english than i do.:)

Dr. Xiaoxiao,

Thank you for comments. My gut feeling, you are still too 书面。For sure
many attendings asked me hundruds of times: "Do you have problem in doing...
?" They know I will have many problemS, but they just ignore 单/复数;
Also whenever an attending finished rounding with me, they knew they
assigned me 10 different tasts, but they just finalized with saying "Go
check it out!". No one said "check'em out".
Maybe attendings had made mistaks too, maybe I was wrong in listening,
anyway I'll pay more attention

Compare with vs compare to.
Americans dont use them interchangeably even in an informal setting.

错啊,只有一个地方,就是not used to this system前面没有are”,的确是个问题,
但是问题在于are used to 如果省略掉are ,变成used to,恰巧有了另外的含义,这
When you first start and not familiar with this system, 就比When you
first start and ARE not familiar with this system
These are great, but more
used in formal occasion and written English.
are good for informal chatting。

out, find’em out, check’em out的问题,他们好像都没注意过这个问题,最后的意
见都是spell it out, find it out, check it out, etc 里面的it,好像已经成了固
定用法,说起来很顺嘴,不一定是指代前面的名词,当然也无所谓单复数了;
另外,虽然to document every aspect of your work 比to document every point of
learning point, directly go to the point, did you get my point?

I appreciate anyone picking on my English. I used to say"she" and"he" a lot
on the same person and nobody really cared(attending, senior,ms). Last week,
one attending told me with a serious stare"it's he" when I presented to him
a case about a 69 yo female. I think I'm doing much better since then.
Sometimes, you just need some little notches to push you through the painful
