For many areas like 苦寒之地, basements are must or better alternative.
For places like CA, almost no house has basement because of the warm weather
. it's not necessary, why builders would bother!

you don't pay tax for basement.

split，bilevel，ranch风格的好多都没有basement。新建的可能都应该有吧。我个人
倾向于没有basement，怕flooding。前两年hurricane吓着了。 |
