I like to use a multi color medallion for the focus point of the small room.
For large room, I always hire out the custom mosaic job, I even have several
chinese paintings tiled onto the walls and floors (some very colorful)
So do what you like, if you don't like it later, you can always change. I
completely redo several rooms in my house each year to completely different
style.
