Position summary
A Cybersecurity Advanced Development Engineer is accountable for
recommending and developing advanced cybersecurity technologies for GM
product Cybersecurity Engineering. The Cybersecurity Advanced Development
Engineer will participate in various industry consortium and standardization
initiatives, review cybersecurity technology vendors’ solutions and
recommend suitable technologies to be included into Product Cybersecurity
technology roadmap. The Cybersecurity Advanced Development Engineer will
lead advanced development projects in a variety of functional domains, such
as vehicle-to-vehicle communications, autonomous driving, active safety,
connected vehicles, etc. The Cybersecurity Advanced Development Engineer
will need to have frequent interactions with internal stakeholders as well
as external entities.
Qualifications and Responsibilities:
Evaluate, recommend, participate, and follow through cybersecurity advanced
development projects.
Work with internal stakeholders to understand our technology needs and
develop advanced development projects that could help improve vehicle
cybersecurity protection mechanism in the long run.
Work with external entities, such as universities, consortia, associations
and standardization bodies, etc. on advanced development projects and stay
current on the progress of those projects.
Distill, summarize, and bring relevant knowledge that we gained from the
participation of those advanced development projects back to the production
engineering team for consideration.
Remain knowledgeable of relevant trends, technologies, and best practices
for securing embedded control systems, cyber-physical system, and vehicle
systems.
Manage multiple projects from various aspects with broad scope and high
degree of difficulty.
Support evaluation and recommendation of new processes and methodologies.
Support continuous evaluation of security threats to drive changes that will
increase the security of vehicle ecosystem.
Review and evaluate supplier and technology vendor cybersecurity solutions.

Basic Qualifications:
Working experience of software coding in C, C++, or python.
Working experience of practices, designs and technologies used to secure
embedded systems.
Working knowledge of common operating systems used in automotive
infotainment components, consumer electronics, and mobile devices such as
Android, Linux, and QNX.
Working knowledge of microcontrollers across various embedded computer
architectures.
Understanding of cryptographic techniques.
Relevant industrial or academic experience in cybersecurity for embedded
electronic control systems
Broad knowledge base about vehicle technologies and security solutions
In-depth knowledge or experience in one or more specific technologies
involved in cybersecurity.
Ability to make decisions and recommendations while taking into account
appropriate tradeoffs between conflicting objectives.
Ability to handle ambiguity and make decisions and recommendations with
limited data.
Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work with diverse/
cross-functional teams.
Effective communicator with strong oral and written presentation skills.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer
Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems or equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in embedded security, cyber-physical system
security, IoT security, security architecture, industry accepted security
technologies, and cybersecurity research and development.
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical security problems through
appropriate and cost effective application of current technological
components.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degrees in relevant fields. (M.S. or Ph.D. in cybersecurity)
Research and development background in cybersecurity.
Experience in V2X security technology, CAMP, C2C, Autonomous driving,
connected vehicle, security consortium, and standardization activities.
Knowledge of major automotive subsystems.
Knowledge of common automotive communication protocols. (e.g., CAN, FlexRay,
MOST, and Ethernet)
Working knowledge of common telecom and wireless technologies such as 3G/4G/
5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, DSRC, and Bluetooth.
Demonstrated proficiency in a wide range of security technologies.
Knowledge of aspects of design and development of automotive embedded
systems.
Knowledge of best practices, designs and technologies used to secure
embedded systems.
Understanding of embedded software security vulnerability discovery and
analysis. |
