n order for me to best prepare for this part of the process, I will need the
following from you (and apologies in advance for some repetition from our
phone calls):
1. Three references: please let your references know to expect an email/
call from us in the next few days. Also – please confirm their title,
relationship to you, and best way to contact them. (At least one reference
should be from a current/recent manager.) In addition, please list anyone
you know who currently works at Yahoo whom we may reach out to for an
internal reference.
2. Please spell out the details of any competing offer(s). Be specific—e
.g. base, bonus, signing bonus, Restricted Stock Unit grant, etc. The more
detail, the better. Please also let me know the current status of any other
interviews/applications you have, and any time constraints/deadlines you
face.
3. What is your current annual compensation? (Please break out additional
compensation, if any, that is received outside of salary and bonus, such as
stock grants, etc.).
- If you receive a bonus from your last company, what was the amount
of the last one received and is it a standard percentage of your base salary
? When was it paid out and when do you expect to receive your next bonus
and how much are you expecting?
- Are you expecting any promotion or salary increase in the near
future, and if so, what is the expected amount and timeline?
4. For your work history - could you please let me know the month/year
you began each job, and the month/year and title change of any promotions
within each company? Also, please explain why you left each job you had, and
account for any gaps in employment greater than 3 months.
5. Please confirm if you are eligible to work in the US for any employer.
6. Please provide me with 3-4 details about your interests outside of
work. (involvement with industry/academic groups, examples of leadership,
hobbies, languages spoken, countries visited, athletics, volunteer
activities, etc.)
7. Please explain any awards/recognitions you have received (academic/
professional awards, honor societies you were admitted to, conferences you’
ve spoken at, etc.), who receives these awards (e.g., were you one in a 100?
), why you received these awards, etc. Again: the more insight the better. :)
8. Please spell out in a few sentences why you might be looking to make
the move from your last company. (what about your current role/company are
you unhappy with, or what are you looking to do that you aren't doing now?)
- Please also let me know why you're looking to join Yahoo and this
team in particular.
9. Finally…your "Elevator pitch". Basically, what I'm looking for here
is a brief (2-3 sentences) overview of your career to date and why it makes
you perfect for this role.
If I could receive your responses to my questions as soon as possible, we
will aim to present your candidacy to the first hiring committee this week.
