Summary
The primary function of the SEM Data Mining Engineer is to be part of the
development team of SEM management decision systems. As a hands-on software
engineer, this role will leverage our enormous data set, to analyze and
understand portfolio performance, and to take action from the insights. We
may use relevance, user behavior, natural language features, seasonal,
holidays, weather trends, market and other external factors to optimize our
bidding systems in order to maximize ROI and maintain revenue growth. The
ideal candidate is excited to make sense of large data sets and to join a
team that directly contributes to the Ask.com bottom line through revenue
generation. We have an extremely large portfolio and are a data driven team.
In this environment, understanding your data is critical and this role will
be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain, and support operations of in-house SEM data mining
decision software systems
Conduct statistical analysis and reporting on keyword portfolio
performance.
Build keyword performance, customer behavioral models
Investigate and model the impact of systemic and seasonal factors on
portfolio performance.
Design new algorithms of portfolio bidding, keyword clustering, and
performance prediction.
Drive innovation in applying data mining and statistical modeling in our
bidding and keyword valuation systems to successfully meet ROI and team
goals.
Work with portfolio managers to understand business requirements and
processes.
Required Experience/ Technical Skills
Experience or knowledge in one of the following areas: statistical
modeling, machine learning, data mining, computational statistics, natural
language processing, lead generation, performance marketing, web analytics,
pattern recognition, and financial modeling for trading and risk management.
Expertise in some programming languages Java/C++, OO analysis and design
, and knowledge in data structure and algorithms. This role needs to write,
maintain and QA code.
Shell scripting and scripting languages such as SQL and Perl, Python.
Hands on experience with large scale data sets, using open source software
such as Hadoop, Weka, etc.
Experience with R or SAS is a plus.
Professional Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem solving, time-management, and project-management skills.
Ability to think outside the box and be a quick learner on online
advertising business and quantitative concepts.
Bachelor's degree in CS is required, Masters or higher preferred.
Extremely analytical, detail oriented, and organized, with the ability
to consistently multitask.
