g**********i 发帖数: 2 | 1 Sorry I cannot type Chinese here. I am new to 401K and need some suggestions
to build my portfolio.
The options are:
Bond:
PIMCO Total Return Instl/PTTRX 1416/0.46%
Vanguard Total Bond Mkt Index Inst/VBTIX 0222/0.07%
Domestic Stock:
American Beacon Small Cp Val Inst/AVFIX 7644/0.92%
T. Rowe Price Instl Large Cap Growth/TRLGX C948/0.57%
Vanguard Explorer Fund Admiral/VEXRX 5024/0.34%
Vanguard FTSE Social Index Inst/VFTNX 0223/0.16%
Vanguard Inst Index Fund Inst/VINIX 0094/0.04%
Vanguard Windsor II Fund Adm/VWNAX 0573/0.27%
International Stock:
AllianzGI NFJ International Value Instl/ANJIX I028/0.95%
Invesco International Growth R6/IGFRX Z669/0.93%
Vanguard Tot Intl Stock Ix Inst/VTSNX 1869/0.12%
Short-Term Reserves:
Vanguard Retire Savings Trust III/0340/0.36%
My basic rules are: buy index, buy low expense, 80/20 stock/bond
So I choose the following:
Vanguard Inst Index Fund Inst, domestic large cap, 50%
Vanguard FTSE Social Index Inst, domestic large and mid cap, 15%
Vanguard Tot Intl Stock Ix Inst, international developed and emerging, 15%
Vanguard Total Bond Mkt Index Inst, bond, 20%
My question will be should I still put money in bond since the interest rate
will go higher for sure?
Thanks for all suggestions. | D*****t 发帖数: 558 | 2 why do you choose social index? it's for people who are into socially
responsible investing. basically the fund does not invest in companies such
as
tobaco, defence, etc. you have other socially "irresponsible" funds in your
portfolio and curiously choose FTSE social index among others.
i would choose vanguard explorer, an excellent small cap fund. it's actively
managed though. but i don't see an index option for small cap exposure.

| w**1 发帖数: 1014 | 4 This maybe TMI for someone who just started, another consideration is tax
efficiency, the usual recommendation is to place REIT (if any), bond, small
cap in 401K/IRA, then total stock market (domestic or international), in
this order.
If you also plan to invest in taxable accounts, and still maintain 80/20
overall, you’d do more bond in 401K, not in taxable accounts.
If you chose FTSE for ideological reason, then good for you :) Otherwise
small cap tilt might make more monetary cents.
