c*******d 发帖数: 353 | 1 I am current using fidelity but their fund all have expense ratio over 0.8%
and potential $75 transaction fee for fund hold less than 3 months. Vanguard
offer some really nice ETF such as Vanguard 500 Index Fund Admiral Shares (
VFIAX) with 0.06% expense ratio. Since Boglehead founded Vanguard, I think
Vanguard probably offers the best index funds around.
Is it possible to rollover/transfer IRAs from fidelity to Vanguard without
penalized by tax? If this possible, what do you think of transfering the
IRAs from fidelity to Vanguard?
Thank you! |

They seem to be fee heavy to me. |
S**C 发帖数: 2964 | 6 Fidelity is an excellent brokerage house, not so much as a fund company IMO.
Vanguard is an excellent fund company, not so much as a brokerage. It is up
to you which one is more important.
There may be account closing fees involved if you do a full transfer.

c*******d 发帖数: 353 | 13 How good are the funds in wells fargo IRA platform? Does anyone have
experience with that? |
S**C 发帖数: 2964 | 14 The majority of our asset outside 401(k) are with WFA. The main attractions
are 1) 100 free trade per 365 days for stocks, ETFs, and TFs (NTF trades are
not counted against the 100 free trades) EACH account if your total asset
with them is above $25,000 and you open a PMA account with WF, and 2) They
have a good selection of institutional class fund which can be bought for
far less than the prospectus stated minimum. Their other fund selections are
good, not as good as Fido or SCHW, but good enough. But you may not get
good institutional class fund in Fido or SCHW.
Their web interface is not very good, and they have a fairly regular and
very frustrating habit of suddenly shutting off access to funds without
warning. Now we have two positions with them that we can no longer add to...
.not a problem now, but may cause some issue in the future. For certain
funds you will need to call them to place the buy order, you wonder what is
the point to be an internet brokerage if you have to go through the phone
sometimes.
In spite of all that, we still like WFA and feel it remains to be the best
deal out there for now.

c*******d 发帖数: 353 | 15 I called Wells Fargo and they said I can get free PMA (otherwise $30/month)
if one of the following conditions applies,
1) have 25000 in FDIC insured account with WF
or
2) or have 50000 for 10% mortgage (they have our mort) + IRAs + trading
account.
To qualify for 2 I have to wait 3 month before I can liquidate my fidelity
IRA accounts.
Does WF charge commission for orders placed over phone? I like their free
trades because this way, I can do DCA on ETF (even lower cost than index
fund) without worrying about cost. |
S**C 发帖数: 2964 | 16 So they increased the bar for free trading.
Regarding trading over the phone, you seldom need to do that; and when you
need to, tell the representative that their website do not allow you to buy
this or that, so you need them to place an order for you, which will be free
(or counted in the 100 free trades) depending on which one your bought.
But if your interest is ETF, why not just go to Vanguard?
You do not need to liquidate your Fido account, you can make in-kind
transfer, then you can sell in your WFA account without the Fido imposed
redemption fee (MF early redemption may or may not apply, what I heard is
not, but YMMV).
I would suggest you to make a partial transfer since 1) Fido has a larger
selection of funds, and ) you should not be get penalized by the account
closing fee.

c*******d 发帖数: 353 | 17 Thank you! What's a partial transfer? Do you mean I can have 2 Traditional
IRAs, one at fidelity, one at WF? I'll ask WF about in-kind transfer. The
rule I listed seems to be specific to NJ resident. |
S**C 发帖数: 2964 | 18 Sure of course. We also have a small IRA at Schwab.

c*******d 发帖数: 353 | 19 So seems like partial in-kind transfer works for me. I also talked with
fidelity to verify about this. They have offered me 25 free trades this year
for each of my account. |
