could you tell me a little bit why?

if u r talking about commission, there are a lot of commission free etf to
buy.

s*****n 发帖数: 2174 | 5 Well, commission is one concern of course. But even with no-commission ETF
such as those iShares@Fidelity, I still think MF is better for interval
investment.
MF can invest on fixed amount (such as $1000), while ETF have to be bought
in whole shares. If you invest $1000 per month, it is way easier to buy
and track. You don't need to calculate how many shares can you buy at that
point.

现在既然 iShares@Fidelity,还有 All ETF@Vanguard都是 zero transaction fee,那
1 share BND (total bond) for $82,
2 share VTI (total domestic stock) for ~$62 per share,
2 share VEU (total international stock) for ~$46 per share,
1 share VNQ (real estate) for ~$53,
traditional fund 很方便做 automatic dollar cost average,更容易 buy and hold

12088 | 10 you can buy [1000/price] shares. not a big deal.
etf is very transparent and flexible.
more importantly, it has tax benefits. there are some favored law changes on
mf's recently. but i don't know the details.

you need discipline, I never understand this investment and speculation
difference. What I've seen is 401K became 201K for so called investors too.
It doesn't look that bad now, but what if it's 1929 or they need the money
in 2008?

s*****n 发帖数: 2174 | 12 I started with MF, and then changed to ETF for almost a year. Now, I
come back to MF. Personally, I feel very uncomfortable about
[1000/price].
I would like to contribute exactly $1000 every month, and think "my
$1000 contributed 3 months ago have earned me $10.59 by far". Both
trading and tracking are elegant.
For ETF, I have to buy 43 shares @ $23.12 3 months ago with a total
$994.16 investment. Three month later, that becomes 43 shares @ 23.92
for a total of $1028.56. To me these numbers look very ugly.
Another reason I like MF is that when it distributes dividend or capital
gain, it reinvest, so it is always easy to calculate the overall return
(before tax). For ETF, it gives dividend as cash, so I have to add up my
unrealized gain/loss and all the dividend in the past to understand the
real performance.
