never make another person to do anything. They are all free wills, so are
you.
What you can do is to ask for help, and then they can agree or not. Both are
okay.
You can talk a bit about your understanding of their work and achievements,
mention that they cited your paper, and then ask them whether they are
willing to write you a support letter for green card, and mention that they
cited your paper. Put everything out in the front. They may or may not
respond for the first time, and you can follow up once or twice. If there's
still no response, move on. For the people who are willing to help, express
your appreciation sincerely.

This is yyy from AAA, and I am currently a NNN scientist in department of
PPP. I am glad that my paper “If I am rich like Robin Li, I would not do
basic research” Nature. 2011; 285(2):119-120 has been cited and discussed
by your recent paper” Robin Li did research before he got rich” Science
2011; 585 (12): 911-999. My current project focus mainly on “The mechanism
of how Robin Li get rich and extend the strategy of getting rich based on
the mechanism”, and I also worked on “How to spend money after getting
rich” in AAA.
I wonder if you can help me with a supporting letter for my EB-1A permanent
residency status application in United States, and I will attached my
updated CV and the reference letter template for your convenience of this
application, thank you!
