我来说说。
1. 首先，我对佛教没了解。
因为佛祖没有留下书面文字，
不光如此，连同年代的烙印弟子
敌人学者都没有留下书面文字, 没有
任何佐证，peer review。 所以
佛教所有的早期经典都是口述。 口传最大
的问题就是死无对证，夸大，遗漏，故意
非故意误传谬传。 有1/10是真的，已经很了不起了。
道家道教都是源于道德经。 而道德经
也是老子（本身是史学大牛），根据周朝几百年
积累的皇家传书，甚至集商朝几百年的
历史经验之大成。当时还有很多同时代
的学者分布着周朝首都和各个诸侯国，
所以道德经是经过Peer review的。
2. 道家书传早于佛教书传。
3. Taoism is very individualistic and cares
deeply about liberty and independence.
Earliest Chinese Taoists were not monks,
but performed all professions and sought
to attain the highest individual perfection and
self reliance. They were historians (Sima Qian, Lao tsu),
alchemists, doctors (张仲景 等), engineers （墨子）,
writers, journalists, defense engineers, craftsmen,
poets （陶渊明，李白）, painters, teachers (Confucius)
etc etc.

Taoist temples were funded by community contribution,
patronage, individual wealth, professional work and dignified hard work.
Taoist classics were written way before Taoism became a religion.
Taoist temples were very common pre Mongol invasion. But after
Mongol invaded, many Taoist temples were turned into Tibetan
Buddhist temples or destroyed. Subsequent barbarian invasions
also followed the same strategy of enslaving the Chinese.
Buddhism, well, was more like a religion for the illiterate beggars.
The slogan was "pay us money, we will pray for your next life".
Many buddhist temples were spectacularly well endowed, with
gold covered buddhas, all based on prayers and artful persuasions.
4. Taoism (and Confucianism and Mohism that was based on Taoism)
all performed literacy education in ancient China, Confucianism
especially so.
In contrast, Buddhism was not known to invest in basic education
in ancient China. Even the Zen monks (the Chinese mix of Buddhism
and Taoism that incorporated Taoist emphasis on fruit of your own labor)
were founded by semi literate monks.
5. Taoism is very human centric and believes in prolonging
the joys of human life. Taoist medicine was very sophisticated.
(though Taoist quest for medicine ended up in gunpowder as well :-)
Taoists are peaceful but wary and watchful of tyranny and other
horrible things.
Buddhism says "Life is bitter suffering, only doing the prescribed X,Y,Z
could relieve humans from being reincarnated ", "All Life is Equal (because
of reincarnation)". Very noble sentiment indeed. The whole reincarnation
fiction makes the bitter suffering more bearable. Buddhism does not
believe
in fighting back.
6. Taoism believes in "Do no evil", "Do not do stupid sh*t".
无为。 Taoism is very suspicious of perfect people selling
perfect pie in the sky. Very pragmatic and yet optimistic
even in the most awful mess. Taoists want to fish out the
most hidden"information". Chinese ancient
military strategies (Sun Tsu), economics (libertarianism) were all
based on Tao Te Ching.
Buddhism is not pragmatic. Zen Buddhism was more Taoist
in its Pragmatism. Unfortunately, after Mongol invasion, Zen
Buddhism like Taoism was also persecuted and mostly disappeared
from China.
7. Finally why Chinese Taoism looks so similar to Chinese Buddhism
in worship. Buddhism came later than Chinese Taoism, but was more
organized (Monks, temples with nice statues), Chinese Taoism responded by
also following some Buddhist practices. Chinese Buddhism also copied
a lot of the Taoist philosophies.
About 1000 years later, we also had the cataclysmic Mongolian invasion,
when entire provinces of Chinese people were massacred.
Later barbaric invasions by Manchus and Japan followed the same
rule book: ie kill the Chinese spiritual roots by destroying Chinese
Taoism. 9/10 of Taoist canons were ordered to be burned, Taoist
temples were burned or changed into Buddhist temples, Taoist statues
were destroyed.
So that's why Chinese Buddhism and Chinese Taoism on the surface
look alike.
Now a little Quiz:
我有三宝，持而保之。一曰慈，二曰俭，三曰不敢为天下先。
慈故能勇；俭故能广；不敢为天下先，故能成器长.

是二者走了截然相反的道路：佛家都剃光，你看不出到底原来头发多还是头发少；道家
则把头发从4周绾起来，在头顶正中做成一个髻，正好遮住地中海，有的还进一步戴上
道冠，你就更不知虚实了。

嗯。 解决的是有男人没妞的问题。
佛教：就是吃豆子，反正都是苦，
男人禁欲，把妞給羯人匀出来。
道家：汉妞被羯人屠光了，
鲜卑妞东吴妞都可以。
想当年五胡乱华，汉人世家
坚持道家道教信仰。
最惨的时候就是流民，“乞活军“。
或者跑前东吴打天下。
不照样娶鲜卑妞，东吴妞？
老中本无事，笨蛋自卑之。
居然连佛祖的脚丫子都有老中百舔不厌。
啧啧。
