随便office, adobe, 视频编辑，股票软件，torrent，百度网盘等，
linux都不行，连刻个bluray都不行。
哥现在还喜欢从windows下面同时遥控三台linux工作站进行工作，方便得
难以置信，比用多机多显的kvm来回切换省事多了，搞的买四机三显kvm的
念头都打消了。 |

上搜索，当电影，老板看着我屏幕上飞驰的代码不知道是干什么，终于
有一天发飙，告诉我不想再看见那个东西。
其实，好多应用程序应该自己写，用着放心 :-(=)
Linux下面用term，效率高很多。

比如mendeley和zotero都只支持(author year)格式 不支持 author(year)格式
需要author(year)格式, 就只能手动敲作者名字

just install the LTS version of ?Ubuntu and upgrade along the way.
never had to to reinstall any of my linux boxes (about 15 of them), just
upgrade. some of my machines were upgraded all the way from 10.04 or even 8.

DO NOT attempt to install the non-LTS version, it is a pain in the neck to
upgrade those. I learned my lesson over 12 years ago....
And also, hold your urge to upgrade when an LTS is just released. I often
wait for 1-2 years to do the upgrade.

I've switched to Linux (Knoppix first, then xubuntu) since 2006, and never
looked back.
I used to run rdesktop from time to time to use MS Office on a remote
windows machine. After I managed to install Office using POL, even that need
disappeared.
Only a few minor things that requires me to occasionally run rdesktop -
1. Dropbox for windows can simultaneously bind both personal and business
folders, so that you can copy/paste between them, but Linux client does not
support that
2. I did not install outlook on POL, so to use my business calendar (like
reserving conference rooms), I now need to rdesktop
but other than that, I am enjoying every bit of Linux, especially as the
admin for my own little cluster - ldap, automount, nfs, apt-get, ...,
everything is better, nicer, more robust, reliable and flexible.

障碍切换，除非一些平台特有的应用。这几年windows开始拥抱linux，基本windows
only了。最近准备换个mac，主要是公司可选的pc laptop比较弱
我记得上次折腾linux remote desktop（大概5年前）的时候没有一个软件可以像
windows rdp 那样自动rescaling应用分辨率，基本都是拷屏，很不方便
还记得当时nomachine老版（3.x or 4.x）是可以自动调整分辨率的，新版就不行，不
知道为啥
linux主要问题还是laptop驱动，快捷键/电池/wifi/蓝牙 啥的，有时候折腾一下也能
凑合，但是年纪大了就懒得折腾和凑合了

I've settled with x2go since 2010ish, nomachine before that, both are
lightyear better than vnc.
on the "Input/Output" tab, you can force a dpi to be the same as your host
a key setting to avoid the smearing (JPEG bleeding) in x2go is to set "
Compression" in the "Connection" tab to PNG based methods. My favorite is "
16m-png-jpeg" with image quality level 7. It offers low overhead but high
quality screen data.

it does not matter, you can customize it anyway you want.
my desktop layout hasn't changed since 2008 or even earlier - I only keep
the bottom bar. For my 2nd screen or 3rd screen, I always place an auto-hide
panel on the left-side about 1/4 from bottom. This way, if I need anything
on that screen, I don't need to move my cursor back to the main screen. The
1/4 position also does not overlap with other buttons, and unlikely to be
triggered accidentally.
my bottom bar is 2 row wide, from left to right: Whisker menu, workspace
switcher, windows button (auto expand), launchers (x2go, chrome, terminator,
thunderbird, file browser,...), Quick-launcher, system tray, system load
monitor, Date Time, show desktop.
for my work computers, I setup ldap+automount+nfs and host all user home
directories on a file server. So, no matter which desktop I log in, I always
see exactly the same desktop layout.

desktop I've used for years.
this is captured with x2go from home. On my 3-monitor setup at work, all
desktop icons are shown on the left monitor (most icons were created by POL,
I rarely click them directly), and my main screen (3440x1440) only shows an
empty wallpaper, with my bottom panel. The cleaner the workspace, the
better I feel.
on the main panel, one of the dropdown menu bar allows me to directly switch
between different display options (call arandr), including a head-monitor
for standing; the other dropdown menu gives me different rdesktop options to
call two of my windows servers.
on the left edge, close to bottom, you see a gray bar, that's my auto-hide
side panel, normally shown on my 2nd screen.
once a few years, I switch to a new wallpaper, tweak the theme slightly or
pick a new default font. that's all I need. I just feel so comfortable with
this layout, that I don't ever want to make big change. |

I don't have problems connecting my bluetooth earplugs or headphones to my
laptop (at least two of them) - most of those were used out-of-box.
without fine-tunning with powertop, my laptop (x1 yoga) battery life
initially was slightly shorter on Linux vs the dual-boot windows, however,
after turning off all items suggested by powertop, my Linux battery life is
almost twice of that using windows!
the only trouble I had was using work vpn on Linux (although I later figured
out a solution).

我刚试了楼上说的anydesk，虽然还是没有windows rdp那种可以完全自动适应client端
的屏幕
不过它可以调整host的分辨率跟client一样，起码windows 到 windows机器是这样
估计windows 到 linux也行
windows到android/ios都不行，估计即使相同分辨率，手机和pc显示器点距差别太大还
是不可用

但是osx 顶端bar太鸡肋，应用程序跟系统托盘融合的设计实在欣赏不能
最有效自然的还是windows的任务栏和系统托盘，不过kde用着不爽
从feature和速度还是Gnome2/Cinnamon用的最多
xfce4用过不少时间，我记得之前有个什么feature（好像是分屏）没有/不好用很不爽
后来机器核多了我一般就用无头linux vm + x-forward，基本不用折腾

遇到不能调屏幕亮度，屏保死机，wifi不稳定，电池管理不行等等问题
有时候折腾好了哪里一更新又不行了
thinkpad可能是驱动支持最好了，也不能保证
VPN的问题我记得当年我好像是用openVPN搞定的
不过现在懒得折腾了，windows的WSL挺好用了，就是I/O还是overhead比较大
很多开发平台在windows也挺方便

硬件上它的8核cpu是目前最强了吧
软件上clion我不写cpp，不好说
不过我最近刚从VS转到jetbrain Rider，觉得卡顿少多了
