了。
他列出的第一个图表是从76年到10年之间，包括94-04的十年禁枪令期间的mass
shooting受害人数统计。从图上看不出显著差异，是否significant还要统计分析来证
明。
而下面的犯罪率统计来说，94年之后犯罪率有显著降低。但作者也提到，这并非单单一
个禁枪令的功劳，而是克林顿政府又雇佣了10万新警察（想起小时候很喜欢看的那个剧
集《警察学校》系列），同时为青少年提供晚上的休闲活动去处（比如午夜棒球赛），
多方的疏导的结果。
同时也提到了NRA在美国政治中的强势，例如Gore的落选。
总之看了之后，我也不好说到底怎么处理才更好了。唯一理解的一点就是，单单一个禁
枪令其实没有任何意义，"The killer in Aurora, Colo., was very intelligent and
farsighted and meticulous. I defy you to write a gun-control law that would
prevent someone like this with a long time horizon and a great planning
capability from getting the arms he wants. I just think that this is a
mistake."

两点感想：
1. 我觉得人家的讨论显然更理智，有理论 有历史 有数据的支持，比我们在论坛上吵
来骂去的有意义的多。
2. 文章说根据Meloy paper，mass killer的平均年龄是27岁...... 嗯，我今年一定要
低调再低调。。。 |

板块。一些老人告诉我菌版就不能去。看到几次关于枪在mitbbs讨论之后，就觉得跟那
些人讨论是浪费时间。最后的结果就是骂来骂去。讲道理是理性，他们是感性。理性和
感性碰撞，能有什么好结果。心善点的，顾大局的，求同存异。碰到歹毒的，就是问候

节目最后NRA的人还在试图讲道理，反抢的两个（在不同的节目）已经很失态，有点歇
斯底里了。要知道，这种讨论，基本都是编导定调子，主持人掌握的。 |

much of the usual stuff we're used to hearing from the anti-gun left: "
absolutely no rational or sporting reason for an individual to have a
semiautomatic weapon or a gun clip (sic) that can fire 50 to 100 rounds at a
time." "but an assault weapon ban and a more advanced recording system for
ammunition purchases (and perhaps...a tax on ammunition) might prevent some
of these crimes." "if only one person had escaped injury the law (the author
's proposed law banning assault weapons) would be worth it..."
yet the article also says, contradicting the author's gun-banning POV: "It
also didn't help that there was no clear evidence that the assault-weapons
ban had accomplished anything." (during the 10 years of its life, 1994-2004)
. in other words, assault weapon bans don't do any good, but we want them
anyway because such guns are evil.
there is a chart showing how the violent crime rate has dropped over the
last 36 years from 47.7 per 1000 persons in 1976 to 14.9 per 1000 persons in
2010. to quote the title of John Lott's book, "More Guns, Less Crime". in
other words, more guns haven't resulted in higher crime rates, but we want
them banned anyway because they're evil.
another chart in the article, shows how "public support for gun control has
decreased dramatically in recent decades": from 78% in 1991 who responded to
a Gallup poll in favor of stricter gun laws, down to 43% with that same
opinion in 2011.
i believe that the rise in pro-gun sentiment among the general public is
mostly because of the significant increase in the number of states with "
shall issue" concealed carry permitting systems, (that started with Florida
in 1987) AND THE ABSENCE OF THE CATACLYSMIC RESULTS FORECAST BY THE ANTI-GUN
ELEMENTS EVERY TIME ANOTHER STATE PASSED SUCH LAWS. despite what the Ivy
league educated left seems to believe, we - the general public - are quite
smart about most things. if having more law-abiding citizens carrying guns
does not increase the general level of gun violence, then i want a gun, too.
from this article and comments from liberal columnist EJ Dionne on PBS's
Newshour on 7/20/2012, i believe that "assault weapons" are once again to be
the left's epitome of evil guns, which must be removed from the hands of
ordinary people at whatever cost.
except that they won't be. since the Aurora shooting "there has been no
conversation about either gun control or the mental health system..."
the reason? as Ed Morrissey wrote in another pro-gun article i just read (
see the DC thread titled "when should we have a gun control debate?"), "we'
ve had this debate, and gun control lost. that's why no one in Washington
wants to have it again."

结果。那些本来刚好在90年代达到犯罪年龄的人群（单亲，黑人，低收入等等）的孩子
