发帖数: 4534 | 4 There were several characters that I have served with and it was not some
pleasant experience.
One of them was a HM (Corpsman), the one who gives you prostate exam and
genital if needed. It was fortunate that mine worked fine so I don't have to
let him poke around.
One of them turned out to be a child molester, if hitting on other dudes was
not bad enough already. His good friend (a straight guy who's married and
had a baby boy) knew he was gay but didn't mind, and allowed him to live in
their house, you know how that went.
One of them stalks in the berthing at night and touches people. He did it
once and we pardoned him, who promised won't do it again but failed to keep
up. They kicked him out so fast so no one can give him a good beating.
It will be inconvenient. For example, the shower in boot camp is prison
style, meaning everyone shares a same big shower room. On the ships, there
are only so much living space, and even worse on the subs. Does it comfort
you knowing when you're naked or half way there, someone next to you was
attracted to you? Sure as hell doens't comfort me.
Other than that, it's just people's opinion towards gays. Such
discrimination is being promoted in the pop culture, right or wrong, I'm not
about to debate that, but the fact is that many, many people in the
military do not like homosexuals being around them, and it's that opinion
that matters a lot. Throwing this stuff at them won't do any good. If you
would compare this to desegregation (which I'm not sure if you should, since
sexuality is more of a choice), they will be very much alike---there will
be a lot more gay hating until people finally adapts. | L*******r

the majority of the "surveyed" personal don't mind. Now I am a little
suspicious how that survey is conducted.
By the way, is it easy to report sexual harassment? If so, if they don't
behave, it will be easier to kick them out, right? | S**********s

Some places tend to have less problems, such as shore commands. For branches
other than the Navy and coast guard, i really have no idea.
Maybe they surveyed a bunch of military "office people" who they referred to
as troops, or maybe they just bsed that survey.
It's not hard to report sexual harassment, but it ain't that simple. unless
it's something serious (like grabbing people's nuts whey they're asleep), it
makes the life of you and the chain of command difficult and ultimately it
affects you the most. You can't go tell your chief that this dude was
staring at your meat and please kick him out.
What's done is done. Since my ass is already out of the active duty, it won'
t annoy me as much. But years later I might get bothered when people talk
down on the military calling them a bunch of fags. | S***Z

, my experience limited to the occasions of working with other ships, and
asking the same question you did.
this integration created a lot of issues. from what i saw personally, it's
hard to find female servicemember who can do as much physical work as male,
who ends up doing most of the labor.I also heard plenty of stories as such
and there's the sexism and sexual harassment issue, be it legitmate or not.
It really is a double edged sword---one side protects the troops while the
other side was used as an effective tool to be manipulated.
lastly all those other problems: pregnancy (gets girls off of deployment) ,
STDs (if cheap hookers are not problematic enough already) fraternization,
equal opportunity....you name it.
my opinion? well, they are a pain in the ass to have, but is that bad enough
that we turn down the hotties? hell no. it gets hella boring at sea. I
rather stare at some hot piece of ass instead of 300 other dudes. | k**********i
