发帖数: 517 | 1 Played Torrey Pines South yesterday morning. My long-hitting friend made me
play from Blue Tee (About 7100 yards, 137 slope). With my distance, I only
hit 3 or 4 GIRs. Eventually I got 96. Very glad to break 100 on this venure.
This is a LONG course - only two Par 4s below 400 yards. It does not look
that difficult at the first glance. But you have to know which side of the
fairway to hit. The No. 7 (Par 4, 445 yards) is No. 1 handi hole, slightly
dog-leg right. They put the flag at the back. I hit a fine driver, but ended
up at the right, with tall trees blocking my view of the green, I had to
lay up (to left rough) and eventually double-bogeyed the hole.
Really nice ocean view at almost every hole. The holes towards the ocean
look mile long, those hit back to the land appear to be short. However, the
entire course does not look as good without the electronic score boards and
courtsey tents at the tournament play. Cross wind can really hurt your shots.
At a weekday, residents pay $61 plus half of the cart rental ($40 for a cart
). Many players walk with pull cart or carrying the bag. The price is steep
for non-resident, which includes $43 booking fee, $185 green fee and cart
rental. Each resident card can only book one spot and you have to show the
card when paying the green fee at the booth.

guess I should have started from White.

发帖数: 10701 | 6 I play 7000+ yards 'coz I have to. But to be honest, I don't enjoy.
Say the 2nd round of the city championship, the course was setup at 6920
yards. Then I come back to look at the Tuesday's skins game. I figured out
at least we played 7200+ because most of the tees were like at least 10
yards back for the tuesday's skins game.
I have been terry pines course once (just watching the tee boxes), the
course looks quite flat for me.

发帖数: 517 | 7 My comfort zone is below 6600 yards. Any course over 7000 yards is too much
for me.
The South course is relatively flat. Only two or three holes have
significant elevation change. However, most holes have false front, and
collection area at the back. It looks there are designed for long hitters.
The third hole is that down hill Par 3 - 159 yards, but it is facing ocean.
The breeze pretty much takes all elevation advantage away. I hit 7i to edge
of front bunker, then into the bunker; and from there, I made par.:-) The
fairways could be wider. But the low cut was very narrow, probably in
preparation for a junior tournament - we saw a banner there.
It is a nice course, overall. | C******s

distance for me. When I have away games, I prefer 6700-7100, occasionally I
will play even longer courses just for the challenge.
What bothers me the most is the poor conditions of some courses, especially
when the green is slow and inconsistent. At my home course the stimpmeter
measures about 10 and they usually post that number on the first tee box (9.
5-10.5 usually), when I play much slower greens my putting always suffer.

can not find a flat spot to tee off, even if I back off from the tee markers.
