of Pittsburgh (Pitt) invites applications for two tenure-stream (TS) positio
ns as Assistant Professor in the field of computer engineering, with one in
computing, sensing, and electronics for aerospace systems, or reconfigurable
and high-performance computing, and the other in neuromorphic computing, or
quantum computing, or embedded computing and sensing in medical apps, as we
ll as related specialties. The expected start date is Sept. 1, 2020. Succes
sful candidates will have the scholarly qualifications and strong potential
to become leaders in their field, synergy with strengths in our Swanson Scho
ol of Engineering (SSOE) http://www.engineering.pitt.edu/, and commitment
to high-quality education for a diverse body of undergraduate and graduate s
tudents.
Founded in 1787, Pitt is one of the oldest institutions of higher education
in the nation and located in one of the most beautiful, family-friendly, aff
ordable, and vibrant of the major US cities. The ECE Department at Pitt dat
es back to 1893, when it was created by two engineering legends, George West
inghouse and Reginald Fessenden, and for 126 years it has excelled in educat
ion, research, and service. Today, Pitt-ECE features innovative undergradua
te and graduate programs and world-class research centers and labs, combinin
g theory with practice at the nexus of computer and electrical engineering,
for our students to learn, develop, and lead lives of impact. Pitt-ECE is e
xperiencing major growth and achievement in both its academic and research p
rograms, with 15 new faculty members joining our department in the past thre
e years.
Pitt-ECE is home to the NSF Center for Space, High-performance, and Resilien
t Computing (SHREC) and the Pitt Energy GRID Institute, and it is a leading
partner in the Petersen Institute of NanoScience and Engineering (PINSE). EC
E faculty members benefit from strong collaborations with the University of
Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and School of Medicine, Pittsburgh Quantum
Institute (PQI), Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC), Pitt Center for Res
earch Computing (CRC), Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation (MCSI), and
many dozens of industry and government partners in the region and beyond.
With 34 full-time faculty members, Pitt-ECE offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. deg
rees in electrical and computer engineering. Enrollment consists of over 50
0 undergraduate and nearly 200 graduate students. The SSOE recently complet
ed a $100 million renovation and redesign of Benedum Engineering Hall (BEH),
home of Pitt-ECE, with state-of-the-art teaching and research labs. As part
of its growth, Pitt-ECE has additional space in Schenley Place, a new resea
rch building within walking distance of BEH, and the Energy Innovation Cente
r in downtown Pittsburgh, both major hubs for industry and university collab
oration.
Strong candidates in these targeted areas will be carefully considered. Appl
ications are due by January 20, 2020, although candidates will continue to b
e considered until positions are filled. Please submit a CV, research and te
aching statements, and contact information for at least three references, th
