i was asked to discuss my research plan during lunch on my site visit. i
would really appreciate advice on the format and content. i was told it is a
chalk talk. does that mean i don't need to prepare powerpoint or handout?
any tips are welcome.

Usually during a "chalk talk" you lay out your future research plan in a
grant application format, so the committee can see your potential of getting
a grant. The format varies from place to place. At one place I was allowed
to prepare a few slides to help my presentation and at the other place there
was literally a blackboard and a piece of chalk. Ask the search committee
chair for the format detail.
