I don't get it, the folks they hang out with are so much lower in quality
than in a research institution, in terms of everything. i would really feel
uneasy if i had to hang out with such people day to day. and
psychologically there must be a shock initially.
plus, even in "elite" liberal arts colleges (say the Ivy of blablah), where
probably you get paid well, the staff and the whole place just seems to
stink. it just e |

doing crap is fun. you eat all kinds of crap and you go home do the dirty
stuff, don't you?
most of the products i get offered are crap. crappy cars, crappy furniture,
paper houses, stupid cell phones. everything!
and have to talk to people who knows nothing but everyday life crap.
and it isn't because there's not good research to produce better stuff, it's because people wanting to make profit would like to of course ask for more for such service.
did those people do research? nope,

选择什么样的职业，是很个人的事情，没有人人都应该做
faculty或仰望faculty的道理。有人觉得faculty的job没

real situation is that in research labs
and upper-scale institutions, the more you progress, you had to spend much
of your energy dealing with
more non-senses. It is just another form of suffocating.
I had to take a service-oriented mindset for teaching/education. Then comes

it's not a professional ranking post, its about why people find such a job
tolerable or rather enjoyable.
faculty position is nothing, except for those who want it.
there are as many stupid professors as stupid anything. that is not the
point.
the point is, if in the case one's original goal was to do some interesting
research, why still hold on when it's pretty obvious that the chance is slim
and teaching sucks out all your energy. (sure, in any university that's
