receive the email at all. I am concerned:
a. is there anyone on campus who can check his email system. If he sent, the
file should be in his "SENT" folder
b. if he indeed lied, is there any office I can report this behavior?
This is not his first time to do this.

our email-come-in-log showed that his email indeed came in. Nothing there
either.
The problem is that he said that he sent it out from him PC at yahoo.com,
not from department/campus email account. So is there anyway to check if he
indeed sent?

you need to mention in your syllabus next time that no e-format homework is
allowed.
If you allow them to send you homework by email, be sure to send them
acknowlegement emails. And ask the students to keep the acks. No ack, no
submission.

it might be time to ask your IT.
As to me, e-mail is the worst choice for homework/project submission.

in class that I only accept hardcopy.
wry syllabus, can faculty change syllabus in the middle of the semester? For
example, i did not mention there is field trip. But then I decide to have a
field trip since it does good to the student. This student also complain
that it is not in syllabus, so he doesn't need to go.
One bad student can ruin the teaching. |

sent文件夹里的东西也是可以删除的
只要学校的email seriver没有收到，或者没有相关的error log
就表明那边，yahoo的发送根本没有成功
学生明显是撒谎
btw，这种情况下，最好在以后的syllabus中说明，一些communications都用学校email
不要用gmail和私人account
