If you got a visiting position like I did, it is still not too bad. I think
there are 3 Bs you could work on.
First, B open minded, so you will have more options (I was preparing to stay
in a teaching school);
Second, B useful to others, like your students and colleagues, so you will
enjoy your work and people will support you even if you finally leave the
place;
Third, B productive, that is the key for any one especially theorists,
because there are so few theorists from lower-rank departments, it is easy
to get discouraged...But in the end, what we do defines us.
