March 11 (Bloomberg) -- “Gang of 8” senators crafting bipartisan
legislation have agreed on process for undocumented immigrants to gain
citizenship, L.A. Times reports, citing unidentified aides familiar with
private negotiations.
* Bill would require registration with Homeland Security
authorities, filing federal income taxes for time in U.S.,
paying an undetermined fine, clean law-enforcement record
* After receiving probationary legal status, immigrants would
be allowed to work but would be barred from federal public
benefits
* Aides say unresolved provisions, cost estimates may delay
delivery of completed bill to Senate Judiciary Cmte until
early April
