This bill, which was sponsored by Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia on February 15, 2011 with 43 co-sponsors with the title of "SAFE for America Act" H.R. 704 was ordered yesterday, 11/10/2011, to place on the House floor calendar. The motive and background for this bill are related to the alleged fraud-ridden history of this immigration program. This bill may face some resistance when it reaches the Senate because of its potential impact on certain ethnic groups that form majority of applicants for this immigration program, particularly Irish that have been enjoying special numbers of this program. Since at least potential 50,000 immigration aspirants are at stake from countries other than those that have been sending in most of immigrants to this country, it may stir up some political controversity along the way.
The other point to note relating to this bill is another pending bill in the House which was introduced by Rep. Isaa of California that also proposed to eliminate the diversity immigration program, but unlike Rep. Goodlatte's bill, his bill was proposing to give the immigration numbers (50,000) to STEM employment-based immigrants. It is thus interesting how the sponsors of these two bills can reconcile during the House floor debate. Please stay tuned to this website for development of this immigration legislation.

, but without converting the visas to EB visas.
The other bill converts the DV visas to certain EB visas, but it has never
been discussed in the House.
