Finally in 2007 there is a solution from Sony for hard drive based (HDD) HD
recorder that is not based on monthly subscription like Tivo or dish DVR.

Does anybody know when Sony plans to release an NTSC version of this product
in the US? I am hoping to get one.

I just don't understand why tivo can charge both equipment and monthly fee
for a DVR. and even worse, seems no similar product can beat tivo w/o
monthly fee.
