R: Unrated-> 627P4
Q: Unrated-> 627P4

| a******y 发帖数: 40 | 7 tie breaks 有很多种。有可能这里是算的对手分。赢的强手越多,排名就越高。

| n*********e 发帖数: 25274 | | n****i 发帖数: 109 | 9 It is tie-break.
Your daughter's tourney is Swiss, the rule for ranking is:
1. the total points: W=1, D=0.5, L=0
2. if total points the same, then tie-break 1:
each player played 5 games with 5 different opps, let's say for
example: player-1/2/3/4/5=2,3,2,1,3 points
the lowest point(1) is removed, then add the other 4 together
you get: 2+3+2+3=10 points, these number is compared to see
who is higher ranking for award. The reason is: if you get same
points but played stronger opps, you deserve a better ranking
3. if it is still a tie after "2", then another tie-break is used:
accumulated score: it means the round-1 win is added five times,
the reason is: if you win earlier in the tourney, you will face
stronger player in the route
The cross-table you posted from uschess.org, the ranking is not based
on any tie-break, it is just based on post-tourney rating.
One time my son tied with 2 other players in a tourney, he and other
one won the tie-break-1, then he won the tie-break-2 and got the trophy.
For your case: because your daughter started as unrated, it is treated as
rating=0 at the beginning so she played weaker players and had disadvantage
in tie-break. It is true that high rated players have advantage in tie-break
in Swiss. You can try to calculate each player's tie-break, then see if the
award list
is correct.
There are at least 5 tie-break rules, the TD should announce it before the
tournament. If not, by default, the first two are as what I said.
It is funny to notice this: for a tournament with 5 rounds, if two players
got the same 4 points after 5 rounds, the player lost the last round usually
ranked higher than the player wins sthe last round. Can you figure out why?
If yes, it means you have truely
understood the tie-break system.
BTW: how old if your daughter? 600 is good for the 1st tourney. | e**********t 发帖数: 87 | 10 Thank you so much for your reply. Although i can not understand all you said
, from your comments, i can think of one reason of her ranking is this is her first game, so her initial ranking is 0.
To answer your question, she was 7 years old at that time.

| n****i 发帖数: 109 | 11 to correct you: the "600" is rating, not ranking
ranking is the position in a tournament
rating is the weighted moving average of a players playing strongth
600 for 7 years is an average good player
to be state champ, you need rating=agex100+500
to be national champ, you need rating=agex100+1000
a tip:
for next tourney, write down the ranking/position/points from the
wall chart before the last round, then compare the final standing, you will
have a better idea about tie-break |
