openings,because they are really hiring. Some of the ads you saw on biospace
or indeed are not real openings.
It is always better to have some total synthesis background, because hiring
managers may have biased opinion about the synthetic strength of the
methodology or medchem people (especially "medchem" in academic labs, which
is far away from industry).
