Assistant Research Scientist-Polymer
Work in the Discover in R&D function for the research in Polymer Science
area and perform as an active project/team member with following
responsibilities:
1. Translates project targets into scientific approaches, delivering proof
of principle and/or new prototype formulations.
2. Identifies opportunities to transform knowledge into Intellectual
Property & as appropriate supports the patenting process.
3. Delivers effective reporting of scientific data, including peer-reviewed
publications.
4. Provides consultation on scientific area of expertise to peer group and
others as appropriate.
5. Contributes to the development of thinking in Polymer Science area.
6. Presents work at meetings (internally and externally).
7. Maintains up to date knowledge/awareness of science & technology
developments in the polymer science and relevant areas.
8. Develops a network of external scientific contacts and builds up
qualified open innovation or external research as requested.
Job Requirements:
1.Strong polymer chemistry background with solid scientific track record (
publication and/or Patent application).
2.PhD degree majoring in Polymer Chemistry, or Polymer Physics and Chemistry.
3.Well trained in conventional polymerisation synthesis and characterisation
with various instruments and approaches.
4.Candidate with working experience in chemical relevant industry will be
preferred.
5.Open, responsible and cooperative, self-motivated, willing to face
challenge, reliable, pay attention to details.
6.Fluent Spoken English and professional English report writing.
7.Good Communication skills. Able to work under pressure.
Assistant Research Scientist-Rheology in Deposition
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Take up roles on exploring the rheological behaviours of thin films of
Home and Personal Care product and Foods product as well.
2. Investigate the relationship among product microstructures, material (
such as particles, polymers) properties and rheological properties of thin
films.
3. Study the effect of product film rheology on the tactile profiles of
product
4. Develop methodologies in investigating in situ film microstructure-
rheology relationship.
5. Communicate and work closely with product design department to
incorporate new techs into products.
6. Assist team leaders in making plans and organising team activities.
Requirements:
1. Ph. D above in Physico-Chemistry and/or Colloidal Chemistry.
Or Polymer Physics/Science with strong working experience in Rheology;
2. At least two-year working experiences in dealing with rheological
behaviours of materials in solutions and of aqueous and creamy products such
as food, paint, Home and Personal Care. Oversea experience is much
appreciated.
3. Skilled at characterizing on structures and properties of materials and
product films by utilizing facilities such as XRD, Cryo-SEM, DSC, Raman
Spectr. etc.
4. Very good quality in science and creativity with evidence in outcome and
published papers.
5. Very good teamwork mindset and communication capability.
6. Excellent communication capability in English.
Assistant Research Scientist-Water Purification
1. EXPECTED WORK
(Summarise project details and most important task(s) that this position
is accountable for; explain the purpose of the position and what it does)
This position will be accountable for
1. Technical support to the roll-out of Pureit into China.
2. Understand the regulations and work to get the required regulatory
clearances on ground.
3. Understand consumers and carry out the technical adaptations to the
mix to suit the roll out countries.
4. Lead the technical development of local accessories development like
hot and cold water dispenser development.
5. Ensure that all the technical supports/ training / claim support
documents etc are provided to the countries distributor’s in time for a
successful launch.
6. Local endorsements and understanding local competition.
7. Understanding the water quality, consumer understanding in china.
8. Chase up with the suppliers locally on the Hot /ambient dispenser for
china and cold/hot dispenser for Brazil.
9. Set up tie up with lab across china to help us do testing’s locally
and handle any post launch complaints etc.
10. Use this china link to leverage Chinese technology for Pureit
globally.
11. Evaluating and testing competitors ( there are over 1000 water
related products in China). Testing on technical claims and preparing
competitive benchmarking
12. Detailed understanding of the competitive market scenario and
identifying product design elements that we could leverage (on cost /
quality) for the entire global Pureit business
13. Understanding impact on Kit life across significant temperature
variations (across regions, across the year) – including setting up and
managing Kit labs
14. Building consumer service team capability (including capability on
handling electrical)
15. Helping evaluate supplier base & manufacturing / supply chain
capabilities in China for the benefit of the global Pureit business
2. PROBLEM COMPLEXITY

1. Should be able to handle regulatory requirements in china
2. Should be able to design experiments independently to test new ideas /
concepts.
3. Should be able to understand consumers and hence adapt the mix
according to their needs.
4. Manage suppliers and ensure that we select the right partners to
develop keeping in mind our technology protection.
3. LATERAL CONTACTS
(Describe the extent to which results are achieved via working with the
other partners (non-Unilever) as well as degree of stakeholder interaction)
1. The job will involve extensive interactions with the Global and LTM R&
D, Regulatory, Supply chain, Marketing and service teams in china
2. The job will involve working with different suppliers for local
development.
3. The job will require interactions with various stakeholders within and
outside R&D within Unilever. The job will involve extensive interactions
with the LTM R&D, Supply chain, Marketing teams across different countries.
4. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
(List the educational qualifications, experience profile including year
of experience and skill template for the current job holder)
Graduate in Chemical Engineering with Project management or water
technology experience of 7-8 years. Working knowledge with water appliance
industry will be highly preferred.
Local Chinese with foreign education in Europe or US will be preferred.
Very good communication and interpersonal skills.
Local regulatory knowledge and excellent English communication is
essential.
Assistant Research Scientist –Deposition
Job Responsibilities:
1. Be responsible for the study on optical effect of product films of Home
and Personal Cares.
2. Study on the relationship among product microstructures, material
properties, film drying dynamics and product performance on both optic and
tactile behaviours.
3. Develop, characterize and evaluate formulation prototypes.
4. Communicate and work closely with product design department to
incorporate new techs into products.
5. Assist team leaders in making plans and organising team activities.
Job Requirements:
1.Ph. D above in Physico-Chemistry and/or Colloidal Chemistry; At least two-
year working experiences in professional fields.
2.Skilled at dealing with particle surface treatment, studying on colloidal
behaviours of particles in polymer inclusive emulsions.
3.Skilled at characterizing on structures and properties of materials and
product films by utilizing measurement means such as XRD, Cryo-SEM, DSC, etc
.
4.Very good quality in science and creativity with evidence in outcome and
published papers.
5.Very good teamwork mindset and communication capability.
6.Excellent communication capability in English.
