history? do they have data? maybe they can do sort of quantitative research
about economic history but how can they do that for say, political history
or art history? this is the first time i have ever heard that and it is very
interesting...

very
年代太久远的恐怕没有，不过近代的数据还是有的，比如美国人19世纪就开始做居民抽
样调查了，基本10年一次，积累了很大的数据库，很多搞历史的从这里面拿数据做
research.
这个数据是公开的，可以在www.ipums.com下载。
