| i****e 发帖数: 642 | 3 The same as my choice. D9 holds the trick, and both opps follow small. What
is next?

| b***y 发帖数: 2804 | 4 Very unlikely that RHO is ducking DQ. But even with 5 diamond tricks, I only
have 11 top tricks. As I said, this is not a great slam, although hardly
the worst I've seen.
I think S9 makes spade suit more attractive for developing the additional
trick. Options are:
1) Finesse SJ, if lost then later finesse S9. 75% chance.
2) Finesse SJ, if lost then later play AK for drop. In addition to LHO
holding SQ, it also works if S are 3-3, or ten-doubleton. Somewhere around
77%.
3) Cash AK, then 3rd spade. Works if 3-3, or any Qx, Tx, or stiff Q or 10.
Around 70%.
So option 2 is best. In addition to higher percentage, it also has a big
advantage over the other two options: if after AK, remaining spade is not
good, you can still fall back to club finesse. In both options 1 and 3, if
you lose you may be down immediately without being able to try clubs.
But to do that, we need to play to SJ immediately. If we continue diamonds,
we will be stuck in dummy.
In summary, sequence is: D9 (holds), then spade to SJ. Say it loses and
heart back, win in hand (pitch a spade), diamond to D10, hopefully cash
remaining diamonds, then cash SAK. If S10 doesn't drop, then: if LHO has S10
, play CK then CJ finesse; if S10 is with RHO, play CK then CA (show-up
squeeze).
What is next?

| i****e 发帖数: 642 | 5 Nice analysis. I think your plan is better than what I did, although I made
it due to stupid defense mistake :)
I continued D, with east discarding a H. So there were only 4 D tricks. I
cashed one more D, discarding H in hand, while east discarded another H.
Then I went to similar approach as your plan 3, trying to drop any of ST or
SQ, or 3-3, but found east holding QT fifth (he did not pitch any on D!).
Now it seemed to me the only chance was C3-3 and Q onside. But west won CQ,
but returned C (a mistake but not very stupid). It was 3-3, so I should be
one down, but west discarded H, keeping his useless D. You could see any
stupid mistake at BBO.

| b***y 发帖数: 2804 | 6 You mean, East un-guarded hearts to keep the useless 5th spade, and West un-
guarded hearts to keep the useless diamonds (after you already showed no
entry to dummy to cash the diamonds), so your 3rd heart became good? You
must give credits to both opponents for making this 6NT.

| i****e 发帖数: 642 | 7 Yes, that was what happened :) I did not expect to make it if CQ is off.
East unguarded hearts before I tested spades (keeping both useless spades
and clubs). But that could mislead declarer.
West's mistake in the end can only be described as stupid.
