It looks to me that the 2C opening might be questionable, 2NT might be more
definitive.
The 3S was calculated, just brillant! BTW, Vieplivee was sitting West, so you

but with 6 loser and good suit this is a reasonable try from my point of view.
I think S should open 1H, and show strong later. 2NT implies no 5 major,
which may cause trouble when S-N are trying slam later.
S shouldn't bid 2C, since he has too many losers. In this situation,
it is reasonable for N to try slam because N was mislead by S.

The reasons why I could choose to bid NT with 5332 and evenly distributed
points.
1. If the 5 was Club or Diamond, sure I want to try 3NT first instead of
5C/5D.
2. I could choose NT opening even if the 5 was Spade or Heart, like, my points
are really even, I have a lot of 10s, etc. Bottom line, if I think this is an
NT hand. For 5-3 high suits, 3NT can be better sometime.
3. NTs are usually much more definitive, sort of like one bid tells

To open 2C, you need:
1. 23+ balanced, or
2. 9+ tricks with 2+ defensive tricks outside the main suit.
5H is understandable, even when the pass after 3S showed some value.
coz South may have a much better hand. South should have refused the
invitation coz of his deadly minimium.
By the way, after 2C open, 3S pass, pass, Double is quite attractive,
showing a strong balance hand. the "smart" 3S bid got caught this time.:> | x****a
