just think of your GC as if it's a US drivers license.
yes GC shows you are here in US legally "permanently".
for a citizen, the license pretty much does the same.
but the days of going to Canada with DL, and not carrying passport has long
gone.
back then, I drove into Canada from Maine all the time. they would let any
car with Massachusetts license plate in. a Plate, that was all it took. |

coming back to the US would be awkward. and that's where the real pain
starts.
knowing your PP is with some other nation, I would not make up story about
where I "misplaced it"...
basically, a GC without PP is nothing.
PP Passes you through Ports.
