The focus of the laboratory is shock-induced gut and lung dysfunction with
investigations into potential therapeutic modalities relevant to the injured
and bleeding patient. Clinically relevant models of shock are employed to
investigate the molecular and cellular determinants of organ specific
endothelial and epithelial dysfunction. There is a heavy reliance on small
animal models of hemorrhagic shock, creation of genetically modified mice,
imaging and advanced microscopy, and a variety of molecular techniques.
Successful candidates will have at a minimum a recent MD or PhD in a
biomedical field, demonstration of success in publication, and familiarity
or expertise in many of the techniques utilized by the lab. Expertise in
surgical techniques in rodents, to include vessel cannulation, is required.
