Job Description:
Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research (NIBR)
is a world leader in pharmaceutical research with
a widely recognized culture for nurturing innovation
and scientific excellence to address unmet medical needs.
China NIBR based in Shanghai is dedicated to the
research and development of products addressing
diseases prevalent to China, and providing innovation
in the understanding and curing of Epigenetic causes
of diseases.
We are now seeking two hands-on bioinformaticians in the
bioinformatics group of Novartis Institute of Biomedical
Research in Shanghai, China. The qualified candidate
should have a solid background in bioinformatics and/or
computational biology. Daily responsibilities would
include but should not be limited to:
• Data manipulation and analysis of large scale
multi-omics data (microarray, next generation of
sequencing, assay profiling etc.) under supervision
or independently;
• Providing expert data mining support to drug discovery
and translational research under supervision or independently;
• System integration of multi-omics data for drug discovery
and biomarker development;
• Developing useful computational tools and implementing
novel algorithms for wet experimental researchers;
• Working in a multi-disciplinary team with lab scientists
and IT professionals to support drug discovery.
Minimal Requirements:
• M.S. in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics,
computer science or other related fields;
• Two or more years of relevant experience in bioinformatics
data analysis and system development;
• Deep knowledge of disease biology and/or epigenetics;
Wet-lab experience and advanced degree in Biology highly
desired;
• Hands-on experience on next-generation sequencing data
analysis highly desired;
• Excellent skills in R or Matlab plus experience in at
least one other programming language such as Ruby, PHP,
Python, Perl, Java, C++ and C;
• Working knowledge in Unix or Linux;
• Wide interest in epigenomics, genomics, transcriptomics,
proteomics, and in vitro/ in vivo compound profiling data
analysis;
• Pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience is preferred.
