开始综述了近十几年的情况，以前NIH每年的资金以两位数增长，大部分人凭着一片文
章，就能找着一个
坑，拿着1M的启动资金，现在这种情况已经一去不复返了，这有点像90年代末的物理一
样，很多人转行
去华尔街，你们好自为之，早做准备。以前只要一个还可以的Proposal，就可以拿R01,
养四五个人五
年，现在和疾病不相关的基础研究很难拿资金了，除非那些已经证实过自己的人，还有
些希望，以前出
去的一些人，都在做和医疗疾病相关的研究，举了些ALS， Ret等例子。这种情况在近
期不会改变，而
且随着奥黑刺激计划的结束而变的更惨，以前NIH那样的发展是不可持续的。
然后就开始抱怨我们干活不够努力了，周末实验室几乎没人，在这种情况下不努力就是
死路一条。
虽然觉得有点不舒服，但觉得老板说的so true，现实摆在那，不免感到很悲观。看到
最近面试的一帮
人，每个人都握着几篇牛文章，而且给的报告都巨好，神经及相关领域，竞争就是这样
的激烈 |

nothing wrong with it, look at cancer field, so devastating but it is still
a mess...the neurological diseases would be just like cancers...if not even
harder...so many different potential causes, and for most of them, we don't
even have a clue what we are dealing with at all...to have the MECP2 was
really a blessing and that's one reason why Houda is so famous and
influential...boy, MECP2 is really a legendary story, according to Houda...

疾病没有关系（rett syndrome-autism），即便是MeCP2的功能还是和现在一样有趣，你
觉得还会有那么多人，尤其是给发钱的人，觉得这是一个那么有趣的 要搞清楚方方面面
情况的分子么？
然后再考虑rett syndrome只占autism的甚小一部分，而且搞清楚rett还未必能对其他的
autism有那么大帮助 这个事情就会很郁闷。
cancer我很不清楚，不过neuro disease里面这样的情况太多了，ALS的SOD1,schizophr
enia的DISC1,PD的Parkin/PINK，AD的APP/Presenilin/etc 都是这么个样子。。抓住疾
病这个噱头，然后再方便的抓住疾病里面最容易track的那一部分(familial的)，然后搞
到几个分子就可以把它们往神经元方方面面的功能扯上关系。well, science上看其实是
很不错的，故事也可以很exciting,但是你要倒退回去看，这些story其实是借这些疾病
的名头才产生出来的，可是对这些疾病到底贡献多么？

as far as I am concerned this is exactly why it is interesting and important
...important or not is actually not really a question here...frankly it
gotta be, in one way or another, even it is completely irrelevant to other
autism( could that be possible?)...after all, we are talking about some
primitive stepstones here...

为训练进行校正的层面呢

finding a job. Currently Ph.D. is over-supplied. If you don't want to work
weekend, don't waste your life, go do something else. There is no way you
can beat people from big school (if you are not from one) who are not only
smarter than you but willing to work harder. |
