source is stable. cons: commute 1.5hour one trip.
Offer2：Start Up Industry， Cancer Research，May Get Matched Package。Cons：
Boss High Standard，and not very nice ,but may be reasonable Pros：commute 0.5 Hours。
在职母亲，老公基本不管孩子，个人不喜欢家里有外人帮忙，包括老人，不喜欢

on the other hand, commuting 3hr a day is unthinkable...can you at least
commute by amtrak? then you can do sth on the way

交通上，避开高峰可能一个小时吧。

发帖数: 4124 | 5 For offer 1, you may want to clarify "70% funding source is stable." Benefit
is roughly 30% of your salary, so 90k direct cost is needed to support you
and that's only personnel cost. You will need to find 27k to cover your
salary, or lose your job. Don't say it's a small amount. It is very hard for
someone to get this money if s/he has no successful funding experience. I
was lucky enough to get enough money while still a trainee to hire
technicians and switched the whole lab to different directions.
In many cases, researcher/scientist series have very different job functions
compared to professors (tenure-track or non-tenure track). Here the
starting salary for tenure-track basic science assistant professors is in
the range of 65k-75k, but some labs offer research scientists (right after
postdoc training) 80k or more. One of my friends got such a job (85k salary)
. Her responsibility was to make a new test compliant with clinical
standards. She quit in under 3 months and said the strict timeline in
completing the job was the reason.

发帖数: 2152 | 7 谢Imh,我最后Take了Offer1。这个位置不要求写 Grant，但如果我想写也有机会。
我不需要自己寻找经费。这个位置经费来源于Grant和Clinic Center 的R&D费用，所以
经费相对稳定。我也是做Clinic Method Development，没有确定是不是有很多Time
Sensitive的Duty，但看过自己要做的第一个工作的Grant申请，觉得应该不会，就是会
有也应该不是100%，不管怎么自己也愿意接受这个挑战，毕竟在美国没有Free Lunch,
任何高工资都会伴随高付出。
没有Take Offer2，其实也有些歉意，主要是考虑到老板脾气不好，怕自己压力太
大，因为老公工作不稳定，压力已经很大，不想自己的工作搞得家庭里太紧张。
谢谢板上的同僚们给了不少建议和鼓励。
