plaguing the cardinals are
1. the lack of timely hitting and more importantly extra base hits(besides
the lack of hits in general). i am not talking about hitting home runs
necessarily, but all of a sudden no one seems able to hit line drives that
can get close to the warning track. when offense is hard to come by, extra
base hits will do two good things: put runners in scoring position and
driving them home.
2. plate discipline!!! the ability to tell good pitches from junk stuff.
time and again, jay/freese/kozma/adams would look at hittable pitches and
swing at crap. and let's go back to little league coaching here: when you
have 2 strikes on you, gotta swing at anything close to the zone. i know the
value of taking some pitches and i hate double plays as much as the next
guy, but you gotta lift that bat off your shoulder sometimes to make things
happen.
a team on this stage simply cannot afford to have any automatic outs. | p*****k
