first priority is not to win , but to save owner's money.
And it is not like sox is dirt poor like Pirates.
I mean if Buchholz is indeed a good pitcher like what sox is touting now,
why can not sox pay him and keep him? A good, reliable SP is hard to find. |

like he wasn't given an opportunity and he knew it exactly.
And I thought GM's first priority IS to save owner's money while building a
play-off calibre team, no?

Maybe I should have said john henry is stingy with money spent on sox. I
wonder if Theo will let Papelbon go as FA, because he is clearly demanding a
pay day.

I think the Sox are pretty concerned with Pap's shoulder issues. If Daniel
Bard lives up to his potential, the Sox won't hesistate to cut the cord with
Pap.

in the last month in 2006. This year he changed his motion to use his legs
more and put less strain on his shoulder. You can see how struggly he was in
the beginning of the season. That's also a major concern when it comes to
his contract.
