For safty, SUV not only has high roll-over death rate, but also increase
the danger to other cars in clash.
For anti-slip, many 4wd sedan and wagon also do good.
For fuel economy, it consumes too much and is alleged as evironment killer.
For it's size, not much larger than a wagon. You can also have roofrack on your
sedan/wagon to hold your bicycle/surfboard/luggage, While you cannot put
those stuff on the top of SUV becoz of height.

pickup, then american farmers got some new protesting jobs to do.

Well, I said American truck buyers AT LARGE are
irresponsible, you can't push this to extreme.
Heavier tax maybe, complete ban is insane. What
'bout giving 18-wheeler license to teen drivers?
Probably not. But I do want my truck freight arrive
on time. Simple reasoning.
If all the SUV's on the road are driven by adventurous
off-roaders, frequent visitors to snow-covered territories,
I'd hail everyone of them with admiration, but the simple
fact is too many of the dorky SUV owners just plain don

get it, they think driving a tough-looking
truck make them look any better than in a Dodge Caravan,
and yes, they are not notably better drivers, but they
drive a notably more dangerous vehicle. In car-SUV crashes,
the fatality of the car driver is 4 times as high.
I owned two V-8 Mustangs and one V-6 Blazer, in terms of
fuel economy, the 5.0 Msutang will blow the Blazer away,
it's simply NOT TRUE that the more cylinders there are,
the more fuel it consumes. Get this: a V-8 Exploror uses
virtually the same 5.0 Mustang engine found in 89-93
Mustang GT's and LX 5.0's, but the highway fuel economy is
about two third that of the Mustang, that's why Ford churned
out the souped-up V-6 explorers in the first place --- the
V-8 Explorer's simply aren't affordable as they are supposed
to be any more.
In terms of the fuel economy, weight is a lot better an
index. The MAP sensor reading largely greatly affect
the pulse rate on the fuel injectors, and what makes
the engine load greater? WEIGHT!!
And the more fuel is burned, the more CO2 emission. The
Expetition may claim the ULEV title, but that DOES NOT
count CO2, the real ozone eater. I'm not a greener, and
I generally think they need psychological help most of the
time, but on this one they are not dumb, and Ford admits it.
