Sgt. Curtis Perkins, supervisor of the Columbia Police Department Traffic
Unit, said Monday that police are still investigating the cause of the
accident, which killed Ping Gui, 48.
Police say Ping died when a Ford Taurus hit the Nissan Altima in which she
was a passenger.
The crash happened at 3:55 p.m. as the Nissan was turning left onto Smith
Drive from Scott Boulevard, Columbia Police Department Sgt. Robert Dochler
said in a news release.
The Ford, traveling southbound, hit the northbound Nissan in the passenger
side as the Nissan turned left, Dochler said.
Ping and a 9-year-old passenger in the Nissan were extricated and taken by
ambulance to University Hospital, where Ping was pronounced dead. A 15-year-
old with a learning permit was driving the Nissan, police said. The driver
was taken to a hospital with moderate to serious injuries, and police
described the 9-year-old passenger’s injuries as life-threatening. Everyone
in the Nissan wore seat belts.
The 9-year-old passenger remained in critical condition Sunday, Dochler said
. Perkins said Monday he did not know the child’s condition.
The driver of the Ford, Sophia Mosby, 30, of Columbia suffered moderate
injuries, Dochler said. Mosby had four juvenile passengers, ages 10, 9, 6
and 1 in her car. All had minor injuries.
Mosby and the 6-year-old were not wearing seat belts. All five were taken to
University Hospital.
Police do not think drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. It’s not
clear whether there will be citations or criminal charges because the crash
is still under investigation, Dochler said. | l*********u

02-06年的老款第三代Altima，IIHS 侧面碰撞评级是 P（B柱形变量 正4.5）。所以被
T-bone 之后变成这样很正常。
Taurus 也够烂，T-bone 这么一个 tin can 老车的侧面，驾驶员居然还 moderate
injury。当然照片上没看出来是哪一代的，所以不好评论。
这个故事也说明，什么车系不是重点。碰撞测试成绩才是最可靠的参考。
大家都应该吸取教训，少开十年以上的 tin can 旧车。如果这家老中2015 Altima，结
果就可能反过来了。。。 | g***n

自己受中等程度伤："Mosby and the 6-year-old were not wearing seat belts"
反观日车，全车人都系安全带，还是重伤不治。
人命关天。在生死抉择的问题上，我们能做的事情就是，选一个安全的车，做安全的事
包括永远安全使用安全带。
我不是什么黑，也不是什么粉。但我要说的是，珍惜生命，远离那些不安全的日车。有
些日车做工很精良，很不错，也安全。但如果有人向你推荐丰田雅力士 (toyota yaris
), 离这些人远点，因为你的生命只有一次。
