streetlight pole that killed a passenger early Saturday.
Emergency crews were called to the fatal collision around 12:30 a.m. at
Cambie Street and West 33rd Avenue.
Investigators say the car was headed south on Cambie when it veered off the
road and struck a light pole, causing major damage to the passenger side of
the vehicle.
A 26-year-old woman in the passenger’s seat was pronounced dead at the
scene. Her name is not being released until family are notified.
The 26-year-old driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries, and is co-
operating.
“It is early in the investigation but police believe that speed was a
factor in the crash,” said VPD spokesman Sgt. Randy Fincham in a release.
