there are several different types of GM cards,
GM card: 5% on everything, however, the rewards can only be applied to
certain (not all) GM brands/models NEW cars and trucks purchased in the US,
with the redemption limitation of how much rewards (typically $1000 - $3000)
depending on car models.
GM Flexible card: 3% towards GM cars and trucks; 1% towards cashback.
Currently I have GM card. You have 7 years before your rewards forfeited if
you do not use it after earning. When applied
