w********2 发帖数: 16371 | 1 Piper Jaffray‘s Gene Munster reiterated an Overweight rating on Apple
shares this evening, writing that the new device is “impressive,” and “a
significant upgrade” to the iPad 2.
Munster thinks the new features will keep Apple in the lead in the tablet
market. And he thinks that “our near-term (1 year) iPad estimates are
likely too low,” given that he’s been projecting just 26% growth in iPad
unit sales in calendar 2013. In actuality, he writes, if Apple loses share,
dropping to just 50% of the tablet market, nevertheless, if the iPad market
overtakes the 350-million unit PC market, that could mean 225 million iPads
by 2016, which would imply 40% per year growth for Apple.
And UBS‘s Maynard Um reiterates a Buy rating on the stock, and a $550 price
target, writing that a faster timeline for shipping the new model could
help Apple surpass his 12 million-unit estimate for iPad sales in the March
quarter.
Apple said it will ship the new iPad on March 16th to 10 countries, and ship
in another 25 countries on the 23rd, notes Um, which is faster than the
schedule last time around, where the iPad took another two weeks after the
initial shipment to reach additional territories.
While we expect iPad 2 sales likely slowed into the new iPad announcement,
we believe the accelerated launch timeline & lower iPad 2 pricing could at
least support, if not upside, our current 12mn unit estimate for the March
qtr.
Update: RBC Capital‘s Mike Abramsky offered his thoughts a short while ago
in a note to clients titled “New iPad ? Incremental? Really?” in which he
asserts the new device will “maintain Apple’s tablet dominance.” |

w********2 发帖数: 16371 | 4 Like some other analysts, Evercore Partners’s Rob Cihra this evening is
enthusiastic about the introduction of Apple‘s (AAPL) latest iPad model,
but he reiterates a view that something else is coming.
Cihra, who maintains an Overweight rating on Apple stock and a $650 price
target, writes that the “A5X” microprocessor used in the new iPad is not
the end of the story:
New A5X processor doubles graphics performance and we think shrunk to 32nm
from prior 45nm, but we continue to believe a new 28nm quad-core “A6” will
be available ~Sept, setting up the prospect for yet another mid-cycle
flagship refresh.
Of the new model, he writes:
10-inch screen maintained as expected, but we continue to see prospects for
Apple to add a new smaller 8-inch model around Sept, enabling both a “one-
handed iPad” design-point and Apple to save BOM-cost to reach even lower ($
300?) price points.
Cihra doesn’t elaborate on what gives him confidence in that view.
Apple may scoop up 59% of the 100-million-unit tablet market this year,
despite the success of the Amazon.com (AMZN) “Kindle Fire” tablet, writes
Cihra. Apple is the “only vendor able to cream off the most profitable
segment,” while the rest of the competitors must sell at cost, he writes.
The Fire, furthermore, is only going to make it hard for the other low-cost
devices based on Google‘s (GOOG) Android software to compete.
Apple shares today closed up 43 cents at $530.69.
