"Bounty" Offered for Whale Riders
Environmental organization seeking information on swimmers seen riding a
dying whale
Federal officials are looking for the two swimmers who were seen riding a
dying whale in South Florida.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration asks anyone with more
information to call their hotline 800-856-1964.
A Pompano Beach resident snapped a picture of one man riding the dying whale
Sunday morning.
The swimmers could face a misdemeanor conviction of harassing a marine
mammal, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a fine of up
to $100,000.

Scientists say it will take time to determine what killed whale
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Scientists said it will be several weeks before they
determine what caused the death of a rare whale that washed up on a beach
in Flagler County.
A North Atlantic right whale was discovered north of Flagler Beach Wednesday
morning.
Officials said the young whale was one of 400 in existence.
Experts performed a necropsy on the animal and then buried the remains on
the beach.
Samples taken from the whale are still being studied. |
