I am an actuarial graduate currently holding an intern offer form a life
insurance firm to be part of their life valuation team, but also see a
potential opportunity to get into a full-time from a top-tier consulting
firm to be part of their pension team. Although I always believed my skill
sets were ideally suited for a consulting environment and that my career
would naturally progress in this direction, I now have a slight doubt about
the future of Pension Actuaries worldwide.

发帖数: 2789 | 4 毛哥很牛啊，啪啪能扯一大堆，为了提高打字速度，我主要用中文回了。
我支持毛哥的观点。我们公司目前又开始拿DB plan了，今年到目前为止增加了10+个。
基本都是政府机构，比如fire department，city clerk之类的。这些plan利润很高，
而且工作还相对少些，比如PBGC不用file。我们目前健在的plan也基本都是hybrid了，
如果是普通公司，纯db非常少，大多是db和profit sharing。其实db还有个重要市场就
是<10个人的小公司，比如牙医诊所，妇科医生等等。db这个时候的主要作用是避税，
和养老没关系了。当然ira也能避税，但如果设计的好，db能多拿至少10%-15%的钱。如
果一个牙医的pension是2M（我们的普遍case），在税上能省200k-300k。除去我们的花
费，很多小业主还是愿意折腾一下的。
至于post-retirement的 H&W val，目前貌似也是强制要提交5500了（但好像pbgc还没
管因为没要asset cover的要求）所以今年我负责的HW也增加了不少。这个valuation和

发帖数: 2789 | 5 最后忘了说了，consulting 公司都是默认要加班的，有些加班没钱，有些有钱。像我
们公司，规定必须43小时，午饭休息还不能打卡，这样每天在公司时间基本上是9到9个
半。如果有钱还有干劲；如果没钱，反正我每天最后大半个小时都是在磨洋工等时间...
我认识一个做pc的朋友，每天早9晚4，中午随便吃，星期五只上半天，人间天堂啊

发帖数: 72 | 11 I don't think DC field need a lot of actuary (if any). I do see DC need
investment consultant. In my company,a lot of poeple change from DB to DC
side.
If most companies do finish up converting to Defined Contributions Schemes,
will there not still be a demand for actuaries, or do DC schemes require far
less actuarial involvement than DB schemes? |
