| t******f 发帖数: 509 | 3 薪水根据地区不同,差别挺大的,毕竟不同城市的living cost不同。公司里做财务,
大公司稳定更好混日子,不过薪水涨幅不大,中小公司呢公司效益好的话升职加薪和
bonus比较好,还有股票上的收入。有了title就有不同等级的压力和责任,拿多少钱干
多少活,公司这笔账还是算得很清楚的。。。 | s*******t 发帖数: 3895 | 4 要接私活,两个条件:
一要有核心技术或能力。这种技术是你单枪匹马一个人就能完成一件事情的那种技术或
能力。如果只有需要teamwork才能完成一件事的那种技术或能力,那么得先去找个team
,那样无疑就增大了接活的难度。
二要有人脉,在美国并不是每个中国人都很有人脉的。没有人脉就没有活。

. In the begging we do everything to get our feet wet, but eventually we
need a core business to survive. We have similar employment background (of-
course you are controller and I am not (^^)), it is not easy for us to
attract "tax clients" since we are competing with tons of ex firm CPAs with
years of hands on tax experience. "Tax" is the easiest section for CPA to
start their own, and it is so lubricant since the income is stable and it
can definitely be a foundation for startups. I worked on weekends for the
biggest Chinese Owned CPA firm in local, I observed how she "advertise" and
"maintain" her tax base, and come to a conclusion that it is impossible for
me to compete with her. Her clients are largely low-income Chinese
immigrants, even illegal immigrants,(a small portion are successful by
opening their own business) she speaks their dialects, going to their
parties, and she has been doing this for 40 years. If I can't compete with
her, I can work with her. She has the client base, I have the technology she
needs. I get to know her clients, maybe one day they need some non-tax
service and remembered my name.
For us, book keeping/business development advisory/system automation is a
better fit. but normally clients who need these kind of service are middle
sized growing companies. Unless you have perfectly matched experience or
some big guy's referral, they won't hire you. In this field the competition
is not about price, it is about service. I think this may be the ground
where we can break in. You are already a controller, just print enough
business cards and advertise yourself in craigslist (free) and google small-
b search(paid). Rent a table in local small business gatherings and present
yourself. Trust me, just start, let people remember your face and gradually
you will get phone calls, then it is all about "word of mouth".
Just get it started.
Looking forward if we can share experience, I am also eager to learn from
someone who has the same background & interests as myself.
