No way, heihei, IDL is stupid in some sense, e. g, if you
wanna run a simple do-loop on command line, without writting a script,
it cannot do it. But Matlab can do it.
I like the free programming style of Matlab. IDL still sucks too much. |

well. I'm impressed with her writing.
Although my daughter's teacher told me her reading level is at about 4th
grade level, her current writing level is far below reading. I'm really
concerned with her writing. The journal she wrote is plain, no structure and
also with punctuation error. she doesn't know how to use the vocabulary she
read from books into her writting. Please suggest some good ways to improve
writing skill |

Good afternoon!
I wanted to update you on Alex’s progress. He is doing wonderful and did
very good on the assessment. There were some areas that showed he still
needed improvement such as comprehension and writing skills. We will
continue to work on those skills as we will also incorporate the first grade
standards and move him at a faster pace.

我的理解是老师说其他areas是可以照一年级的教， 但是reading comprehension and

项老师认为还有前进的空间, 要继续推, 但肯定是要用一年级的高标准来要求, 希望能
到达同样优秀的水平, 不是一般的一年级水平...

介绍了基本情况，我想回到主题，到底中国的教法对孩子好还是美国的教法比较好？
就我自己的体会，在中国孩子会学得更多是肯定的，基础好方面尤其突出的是数学，现
在老大也做些美国3-4年级的书，我怕她忘了英文，她一看数学，觉得简直不屑一顾 -
数学这玩意在低年级纯粹靠练，熟能生巧，中国孩子做的题是美国孩子的至少5到10倍
，而且更难，数学能不好吗。但其他课程就我感觉不如美国实用 - 语文，背大量的课
文诗词，孩子觉得没有用，成语学了很多孩子只觉得是老师在刁难大家，国学现在强调
得很多，老大的学校每个年级要学一种国学经典，从一年级的弟子规到六年级的论语，
3年级是千字文。也许弟子规还好吧，但有兴趣的去查来看看，大家评论下千字文有啥
必要学吧。孩子在美国上了几年英文，单词不见得会写很多，但书可以看到harry
potter那样的大厚本，每天借很多书来读，通过阅读自己学会很多东西；很喜欢
writting, 写起来就停不住，我看是流水帐但老师都很鼓励，孩子也乐意写写画画表达
自己，觉得学的东西很有用。反过来看中国半年下来，孩子一提作文就头疼，因为老师

许多绿卡申请人提交I-485调整身份的申请后，迟迟不能获得绿卡批准书。如
果向移民局查询案件状况，得到的答案大多都是因为美国联邦调查局的姓名审核(Name
Check)结果还没有下来，因而移民局无法处理绿卡申请人提交的I-485调整身份申请。
一些绿卡申请人想尽办法通过各种途径寻求参议员或者众议员的帮助或者通过拨打
移民局的热线电话，以期加速姓名审核的处理，但收效甚微。还有一些绿卡申请人干脆
就消极等待，I-485调整身份申请交上去三、四年都没有反应，但是还是告诉自己要一
等再等。绿卡申请人到底有没有什么可以依据的方法来加速美国联邦调查局的姓名审核
呢？
在美国移民局公布的一份关于加速联邦调查局姓名审核原则的通知（该通知原文附
录本文文末）中明确规定，
为了加速移民局处理联邦调查局的姓名审核请求，申请人必须确立以下条件之一：
1、 紧急军事部署；

2008年7月2日，加州东区美国联邦地区法院作出判决，要求美国移民局向强制行政机构
作为诉请案（Writ of Mandamus以下简称WOM）的原告Asghar Shirmohamadali先生支付
律师费25,500美元以及由其它相关费用1,000美元。在此之前，法院已就WOM案件作出判
决，要求移民局在30天内对Asghar Shirmohamadali先生的已递交四年之久的I-485申请
进行审理。
I-485身份调整申请是外籍人士获得美国永久居住权（即绿卡）过程中的最后一步。想
要有资格获得I-485申请的批准，外籍人士必须是已经被批准的移民申请（如I-140或I-
130）的受益人。在I-485的处理程序中， 移民局审查外籍人士的各项个人背景，并决
定其是否可以被接纳为美国永久居民。由于I-485本身的这些特性，移民局审查一个单
