最新的177卷第4期的美国《时代周刊》杂志于2011年1月21日正式出刊，本期封面文章标题为“为严教正名”。文章认为，对子女的传统严教在现代社会中仍有意义，关键是如何因人而异地施严教，而不是施虐教。
自称是"严母(‘tiger mother’)"的耶鲁大学法学院华裔女教授蔡美儿(Amy Chua)，在教养子女上沿袭了中国传统的严教思路。她曾导演了令人侧目的一幕：强迫7岁的小女儿Lulu从晚饭后到睡觉前要连续练习弹奏一首钢琴曲数小时。Lulu在此期间不喝水，甚至也不去洗手间方便，直到能较熟练地弹奏此曲。
蔡美儿还会像一些严厉的中国父亲那样，当女儿有失礼举止时会称呼其为"废物(‘garbage’)"。小Lulu为庆祝母亲生日制作了贺卡，但蔡美儿不领情，并把它退给女儿，称原指望能收到Lulu用心绘出祝贺她生日的画作。她自认为理应获得比贺卡更有价值的贺礼。

母亲在生产的过程中所感受到的疼痛，是一般人无法想像的，但在生产时亲眼看到新生儿被医生弄死，心中的痛更是无以复加。
美国密苏里州妇人贝茨（Arteisha Betts）前年年底怀孕，去年3月第28周时就要临盆，由产科医生韦伯（Gilbert Webb）为她接生，贝茨表示之前产检时，另一位医生说胎儿的腹部太大，建议剖腹生产，但韦伯医生拒绝，坚持要她自然分娩。结果分娩时，婴儿真的卡住，韦伯抓着婴儿的头用力 一拉，竟然硬生生把婴儿的头拉断，贝茨和在一旁助产的丈夫，亲眼目击鲜血自婴儿脖子「喷出」，两人吓呆。
接下来更是恐怖，韦伯医师立刻把婴儿的头部和身体，「推回」贝兹的产道内，改口说要立刻剖腹，连麻醉药都还没生效，就向贝茨的腹部下刀，结果是「把男婴头部与身体完全分开」。贝茨告诉法庭，韦伯医师还试图掩饰男婴的伤口，然后把婴尸递给她和丈夫。夫妇俩现在控告医院、韦伯与另一名医生，因疏忽及不当行为导致婴儿死亡。

美各机场收缴了大量塞进钱包、皮包和手提箱的现金。
加拿大边境服务局(Canada Border Services Agency)提供给《华尔街日报》的文件显
示，从2011年4月到2012年6月初，在加拿大最繁忙的多伦多和温哥华机场，有关官员从
中国公民那里收缴了约1,290万加元（约合1,300万美元）的未申报现金。

的计划的第一步。
在加拿大资源依赖型经济面临的挑战加剧之际，加拿大自由党领导的政府周一启动
了针对中等收入者的减税计划。
目前，受围绕全球供应过剩的担忧拖累，加拿大关键出口商品石油的价格触及七年
低点。油价走低令加元全年严重承压，加元周一跌至11年低点。
加拿大财政部长Bill Morneau表示，税改将使每年联邦支出比自由党在竞选期间所
预计的多约12亿加元（合8.88亿美元），反映出不断恶化的前景。他说，加拿大政府把
更多钱放入中产阶级腰包的举措将给经济带来提振。税改是10月19日全国大选之前自由
党的一项主要承诺。
Morneau表示，中产阶级减税是政府通过财政政策刺激经济增长的计划的第一步。
预计减税将使约900万加拿大人受益。他说，加拿大政府将在新的一年推进其他刺激措

前日凌晨怡陶碧谷皇家约克路夹The Queensway一幢上居下舖2楼寓所内的斧头杀人案，
警 方凶杀案调查组探长昨向本报证实，案中遭人以利斧劈头惨死是36岁加国出生的华
裔许姓青 年Dennis Hoy，他又向本报证实案中被捕22岁疑凶，是死者女朋友的男性友
人，警方称凶案 疑与三角情杀有关。

世界棒球經典賽資格賽20日爆出最大冷門，巴拿馬區資格賽，地主與巴西的最後之爭，
竟然以0比1敗北，失去晉級分組賽的資格，這不但代表救援王李維拉無緣參賽，也代表
巴西創下首次參加經典賽「會內賽」的紀錄。巴西能晉級，名人堂等級的總教練拉金(
Barry Larkin)功不可沒。

杯，00欧锦赛夺冠主力，当然达内没去，巴西里边当时只认识嘀嗒，属于一个奥运适龄
