其起源有几种版本：古罗马帝国暴政时期，有位修道士叫瓦仑丁(Valentine)，常常私抗皇命为赴沙场却拒不除婚约的小伙子主持婚礼，深得大家敬重。恺撒得知便将瓦仑丁关进牢房折磨致死。人们尤其是热恋待婚的情侣就以他的祭日(270年2月14号)立节为念。
另一说：瓦仑丁是早期基督教徒，因那时仍遭禁的信仰而被捕。囚禁中他治愈了典狱长千金的眼疾，却仍难免死，赴刑前修书该女永诀，情意绵绵、感人至深，落款From your Valentine，由此成为情人的代称与节气。后渐演化成送花、心形糖果，用花边和摺穗掩盖住馈赠人名字的信物等风俗。

斗机，可能还有美援P40战机，苏联拆了2挺机枪，又用最大马力，所以发动机寿命短了
