趁着秋夜，我点了一支烟，我思索中国的传说。
中国传说中有两种神物，麒麟和龙。在现实世界里它们并不存在，可它们的
原身是什么却也没有人知道。曾经有人大费周折，想弄明白麒麟在现实生活中到
底是什么。考证的结果很出人意料：麒麟的原身是非洲的长颈鹿。
这简直有点让人哭笑不得。不错，古代交通不便，但是想象与讹传也有限度
。那就是它们只应当影响局部形象，而不损失神韵，否则就不是想象或是讹传，
而是扯谎了。从长颈鹿到麒麟，中间的差距要多么长的舌头才能填补？长颈鹿的
长处就是一根脖子。可以抹煞它身上的黑斑，可以把它掐头去尾，但是这根脖子
却是神韵所在，万万不可以被忽略不计的。可我们见到的麒麟，却丝毫不以脖子
见“长”。看看狮子吧，狮子是对“长颈鹿”学说的一个有力反驳。它同样传自
非洲，有威武雄壮的头部。但传过来并没有走样。民间甚至有以“红烧狮子头”
命名的菜，凡是见过这道菜的人，大概都不能不承认厨师的动物学造诣。
如果说麒麟的前身还算有个捕风捉影的说法，龙的原身可就没有一点痕迹了
。这也许是因为龙的问题过于严肃。从某种意义上说来，龙是政治动物。过去说
